Whyalla community took the pledge
Whyalla residents have demonstrated their commitment to the environment, with hundreds signing up to ‘Take the Pledge’ and dispose of waste more responsibly.

Whyalla City Council implemented the ‘Take the Pledge’ program in partnership with KESAB Environmental Solutions to encourage sustainable behaviour change, focusing on household waste and recycling.
By signing up to ‘Take the Pledge’, each household agreed to responsibly dispose of food waste and other organic material in the green bin, and recyclables in the yellow bin.
The program now has more than 250 participating households in Whyalla, collectively diverting around 39,000kgs of organic waste from landfill annually.
Waste Officer Graduate, Charuka Sanduni said council was overwhelmed with community interest to participate in the program.
”Demand for the caddies was fantastic, so we will continue to make them available for residents to help encourage the proper disposal of food waste through the green-lid bin,” Ms Sanduni said.
“We want to see as many residents as possible coming on board to help protect the environment by properly sorting their rubbish.“
