Mental Health Matters Round starts this weekend!

Whyalla's biggest month of community connection, wellbeing and sport begins this Saturday, with the 2026 Mental Health Matters Round (MHMR) officially kicking off at the Whyalla Netball Courts.

Starting from 10am on Saturday 8 August, the free family-friendly launch event will feature Adelaide Thunderbirds player Sophie Casey and Melbourne Mavericks player Kim Brown, alongside face painting, the SAPOL Activities Trailer, giveaways and plenty of opportunities to connect with local mental health and community organisations.

Now in its second year, Mental Health Matters Round has grown from a single football initiative into a month-long community campaign, expanding to include netball, soccer, football and a range of wellbeing activities throughout August.

Following this weekend's launch, the program will continue with activations at local sporting clubs, Speak & Share sessions, community events and fundraising activities designed to encourage conversations around mental health and strengthen community connections.

More than just a calendar of sporting events, Mental Health Matters Round raises awareness and funds for local mental health initiatives, with proceeds supporting programs that benefit the Whyalla community.

Residents are encouraged to get involved, whether by attending this weekend's launch, supporting their local sporting clubs or participating in one of the many events taking place throughout August.
