Foreshore Toilet Renewal Project complete

The Foreshore Toilet Renewal project is now complete and open to the public!

The project which commenced in July - has produced a contemporary facility that will improve safety, accessibility, and practicality for all users. It was identified that the footpath in front of the Visitor Information Pod needed an upgrade, these works were also carried out during the project period.

Mayor Phill Stone is pleased with the project's completion, stating, "This project will greatly benefit everyone who enjoys the foreshore area. I am happy to see it complete and open to the public, providing modern facilities for both our community and visitors, while also recognising our past through the fantastic vinyl wrap across the back.

” I would like to extend a huge thank you to the community for their patience during the works and to all contractors involved in the project.”

Key contractors – most of which are local businesses – include Terrain Group, Stassi Engineering, Whyalla Earthworks, Environ Plumbing, ALEP Electrical Contractors, Vawser Concrete and Contracting, Tonkin Concreting Services and Dunstall Excavations.

New Toilet Features include:

  • Three new ambulant toilets (designed for people with differing levels of ability)
  • Disability Discrimination Act compliant toilet
  • All-aluminium, corrosion-resistant construction
  • Colour-matched to fit in with the VIC Pod
  • Veranda with wind / privacy screen across the front doors
  • Separate entrance to rear service duct housing the toilet cisterns, to minimise vandalism
  • Vinyl wrap with historic foreshore picture on the back of the toilets (Whyalla Foreshore in the 1950’s)
  • Auto locking system – automatically closing the doors at 9:30pm and opening again at 5:30am.
