Whyalla Businesses Jump at Opportunity

The launch of Whyalla’s new Business Growth Program has been hailed a huge success, with about 100 local businesses already signing up to take advantage of the opportunity.

A diverse array of local businesses attended the event, officially launching the partnership between City of Whyalla, Business SA and Whyalla Business and Tourism.

Through the growth program, council is providing local small businesses with access to the full array of services available from both Business SA and Whyalla Business and Tourism. These include the Business Accelerator Program; grants and tenders support; staff employment assistance; seminar / webinar and networking opportunities; among a host of others.

Mayor Clare McLaughlin says: “It was a great turn out from our business community – there was genuine excitement among the business owners and managers who attended regarding the opportunities that are ahead of us.

“Whyalla is poised to become one of the great global centres for energy production, green steel, and the mining and processing of rare earths; and I am confident that our small business community is going to leverage this opportunity, continuing to grow and diversify on the back of these major developments.

“Their success will help entice more businesses to establish themselves in Whyalla, which will only lead to further growth for our entire economy and community.”

Business SA CEO Martin Haese says: “It was great to be back in Whyalla just a few weeks after my recent visit. It was fantastic to mix with the local business owners and listen to their stories and take in the local challenges and opportunities.”

“Business SA is committed to frequently being on the ground in Whyalla. We will be surveying businesses in the area very soon to find out their biggest challenges and look forward to creating tailored offerings that suit the current needs of the Whyalla business community.”

Whyalla Business and Tourism Chair Malcolm McLeod says “Local businesses were out in force for the launch and have jumped at the opportunity to experience the considerable range of services and support that Business SA and Whyalla Business and Tourism can offer.”

“With 100 of the spots already taken, we encourage other interested parties to sign up now to this exciting opportunity so we can build our collective impact as a united business community.”
