Legionella control

Council maintains a register of the cooling towers and warm water systems located within the area and require that all business that have either a cooling tower or warm water system register their system with Council as per the Regulations.

Legionella is a type of bacteria that may cause serious pneumonia. It can be found in potting mixes, mulches, composts, soils and water. Studies have shown that Legionella can be transmitted by breathing in aerosols and dusts from any of these sources. Enviornmental Health Officers monitor and assess compliance reports of cooling towers and warm water systems to ascertain compliance with structural and maintenance requirements of the relevant Australian Standards and Codes of Practice.
