Whyalla’s tourism finalists would love your vote

The Whyalla Visitor Centre has done it again – once again being named among this year’s South Australian Tourism Awards finalists!

And this year, they’re joined by Spencer Gulf Adventures, with the Visitor Centre running in the ‘Visitor Information Services’ category and Spencer Gulf Adventures running in the ‘Adventure Tourism’ category.

The Visitor Centre is nominated for its work helping visitors plan their time in the city and across the Eyre Peninsula. The team shares local advice, helps visitors make the most of their time in Whyalla, and conducts personalised tour experiences of the HMAS Whyalla and the Whyalla Steelworks. This comes on the back of winning the Visitor Information Services category at last year’s tourism awards.

Complementing their work is Spencer Gulf Adventures, nominated for the unique on-water experiences it offers for both locals and tourists.

Whyalla City Council Events and Tourism Lead Jenny Barnes said it is an honour to see both local teams recognised.

“To see two Whyalla tourism businesses among this year’s finalists is wonderful,” Ms Barnes said.

“The Visitor Centre team spends every day talking to people about what they can see and do here. Some visitors arrive with a full itinerary; others walk in and ask, ‘What should we do this afternoon?’ Our team love helping both.

Spencer Gulf Adventures owner Steve Storic said the finalist announcement was a welcome surprise.

“I’ve spent the last few years taking people out on the Gulf, and I still enjoy seeing their faces when the dolphins turn up or they get their first look at a cuttlefish. It’s a nice bit of recognition for the business, and I’m pretty chuffed,” Mr Storic said.

“We’ve had our challenges, but the Whyalla community has really got behind me and helped get the business to where it is today. I’m grateful for that support, and this recognition is a testament to the people of Whyalla too.”

Additionally, as Tourism Award finalists both the Visitor Centre and Spencer Gulf Adventures are in the running for the SALIFE People’s Choice Award.

“People’s Choice means just that — we need people to vote. If we’ve helped make your visit a good one, please vote for us. And if Steve has shown you Whyalla from the water, we’d love you to get behind Spencer Gulf Adventures too.”

Votes can be cast through SALIFE’s People’s Choice Awards page before 5pm on Monday 12 October 2026. Voters can also enter the draw to win a South Australian accommodation and experience package.

Winners of the South Australian Tourism Awards will be announced on Friday 6 November.
