Whyalla City Council celebrates volunteers during National Volunteers Week
As part of National Volunteer Week, held from 18–24 May, Whyalla City Council has recognised and celebrated the dedicated volunteers who generously contribute their time, skills and energy to supporting Council and the wider community.
To thank volunteers for their ongoing commitment, council hosted a morning tea where volunteers were presented with certificates of recognition in appreciation of their valuable work. Volunteers play an important role across many areas of the community, helping support programs, facilities, events and initiatives that enrich the lives of local residents.
Mayor Phill Stone acknowledged the significant impact volunteers have in Whyalla, thanking them for the difference they make every day.
“Many community assets, groups and services would struggle to continue without the dedication and generosity of volunteers,” Mayor Stone said.
“They are the quiet achievers behind much of what makes our community connected and welcoming.”
“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many people willing to share their time and talents to support others, and it’s important they know their efforts are valued.”
Whyalla City Council is also currently reviewing its volunteer management framework to ensure it aligns with best practice, remains up to date with legislation and continues to provide a strong framework that supports both council and our volunteers.
As part of the review process, council has consulted with multiple councils across South Australia to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. Volunteers attending the morning tea were also invited to provide anonymous feedback to help inform future improvements and strengthen Council’s volunteer program.
We extend our sincere thanks to all volunteers for their commitment, compassion and willingness to make a positive contribution to the community.
