Support Local Services, Don't Dump in Whyalla
Whyalla City Council is encouraging residents to support local community organisations like St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) by donating unwanted household items responsibly instead of illegally dumping them around the city.
With many free waste, recycling, and donation services available across Whyalla, Council says there is no excuse for illegal dumping.
Vinnies accepts a range of donations at its Essington Lewis Avenue store, including clean toys, clothing, household items, small furniture, and small household electronics, these items that can make a real difference for local families doing it tough.
Whyalla Vinnies Manager Vanessa said every responsible donation helps both the community and the environment.
“Our store relies purely on donations from the community, so if people don’t donate responsibly, services like ours cannot continue to exist,” Vanessa said.
“Many people in Whyalla rely on affordable second-hand shopping, and every donation helps keep usable items off the streets and out of landfill.”
“There are so many services and resources available locally that there’s simply no need for illegal dumping.”
“We ask residents not to leave items outside the store after hours or dump goods on the doorstep, particularly on weekends when nobody is available to process donations.”
Vinnies accepts donations Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
Illegal dumping continues to impact public spaces, roadsides, and vacant land throughout the city, creating environmental issues, safety risks, and unnecessary clean-up costs for the community.
Residents are reminded there are several free waste and recycling services available throughout Whyalla to help dispose of unwanted items responsibly. More information can be found at Free Waste and Recycling Services Around Whyalla.
Support local services and don’t illegally dump, so we can all continue to Enjoy Whyalla!
