Set your clothes free: free textile collection returns to Whyalla

Whyalla residents can give their unwanted clothing and household linens a fresh start when the free ‘Set Your Clothes Free’ donation and recycling event returns on Saturday 31 October 2026.

Whyalla City Council has partnered with Green Industries SA to host the collection in the Council courtyard from 9am to 3pm, offering residents an opportunity to clear out their wardrobes while keeping textiles out of landfill.

Good-quality clothing and footwear will be collected for resale through local charity stores, while low-quality clothing, footwear and household linens will be accepted for recycling.

Whyalla City Council Waste Officer Charuka Sanduni encouraged residents to check their cupboards and put aside items they no longer need.

“Most of us have clothes tucked away that we no longer wear, or household linens that have seen better days,” Ms Sanduni said.

“By taking a little time to sort through your wardrobe, you can support local charity stores and help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.”

Residents are encouraged to gather their unwanted textiles ahead of the event and bring them to the Council courtyard during collection hours.
