Recognising the hands and hearts behind the Whyalla Cemetery

Whyalla City Council is recognising dedicated staff and volunteers whose ongoing care and commitment help ensure the Whyalla Cemetery remains beautifully maintained for families and visitors.

The cemetery plays an important role in the community, providing a place of remembrance and connection for those visiting loved ones. Behind the scenes, council staff work alongside volunteers Dennis Dugan and Carol Hewer to maintain the grounds to a high standard throughout the year.

Council has received numerous positive comments from community members who have praised the care and attention that goes into maintaining the cemetery.

Mayor Phill Stone said the work carried out by staff and volunteers was an important service to the community.

"Our cemetery holds meaning for many in our community. It’s somewhere families come to remember loved ones and reflect on special memories," Mayor Stone said.

"Keeping the cemetery looking its best is about much more than mowing lawns and maintaining gardens – it's about showing respect to those who have passed and providing comfort to the loved ones who visit.

"We’re fortunate to have dedicated staff and volunteers who take great pride in their work and care about creating a place that is well presented. Their efforts make a real difference, and I want them to know that their work is appreciated.

"On behalf of council and the community, I thank everyone involved in caring for the cemetery and helping maintain a highly respected part of Whyalla."

Carol

Carol said she enjoyed spending time at the cemetery, taking a lot of pride in keeping it looking its best for the community and other visitors.

"It's rewarding to know that the work we do helps create a place where people can come and remember their loved ones in a place that feels cared for and welcoming,” she said.

Council extends its thanks to all those involved in maintaining the cemetery and helping preserve it as a place of remembrance for the whole community.
