Whyalla City Council is pleased to announce Kata and Belle as the successful tenderer for the operation of the Point Lowly Cottages, with the company set to take over once the newly-upgraded facility opens early next year.
Kata and Belle Director Georgie Fowler said her business offered unique accommodation experiences, with the Point Lowly Cottages development aimed to cater for a wide variety of customers, including families, tour groups, events and weddings.
“We are really looking forward to offering a wonderful experience at Point Lowly, allowing locals and visitors to once again enjoy the cottages and the beautiful surrounds,” Ms Fowler said.
“Point Lowly offers so much to do year-round – from the lighthouse and the coastline in summer, to the amazing cuttlefish in winter – and the upgraded cottages will offer the perfect home base from which to explore these attractions.”
The project aims to further enhance Whyalla’s offering as a tourist destination, while continuing to cater for the community.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Kristen Clark said the project remained on track to be completed by the end of this calendar year, with a reopening date expected in the first quarter of 2024.
“There’s been a lot of progress in recent weeks, including slabs being poured; framework being erected; and roof framing nearing completion,” Mr Clark said.
“Soon we will start to add roof sheeting and brick work, so the community will have a better idea of how the upgrade will appear externally.”
The project represents a significant investment into local tourism, being co-funded by Council and the Government of South Australia’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program (as part of Council’s Northern Coastline Masterplan).
Council has worked with SA Heritage, Plan SA and McMahon Services to ensure the renovation works stay true to the property plans and meet heritage requirements.
Updates will continue to be provided as the project progresses.
