New pontoons installed as Whyalla Boat Ramp upgrade progresses

The Whyalla boat ramp upgrade continues to reach milestones, with the installation of the new pontoons now underway.

Over the coming weeks, contractors will continue work on key components of the project, including concrete works on the boat ramps; securing the pontoons; upgrades to sections of the car park; and the construction of new lighting infrastructure.

Mayor Phill Stone said the successful installation of the pontoons marked an exciting step forward for the project.

"This is one of the most visible milestones of the upgrade and provides the community with a clear indication of how the finished facility will look." Mayor Stone said.

"There’s been a lot of community interest in the project, so it’s great that they can see it starting to take shape following all the preparatory work that was required.

“There’s still more work to be done, but provided the weather conditions don’t cause any delays, the project remains on track for completion in July."

Mayor Stone said the upgraded facility was designed to provide safer and more accessible launching and retrieval for recreational and commercial boat users. This included significant effort to ensure access to the boat ramp has been maintained throughout construction.

“This will continue through until project completion, as we’ll keep one ramp open for use as much as possible to minimise disruption to users,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the community for their patience and understanding throughout the construction period – it’ll be well worth it once they’re using the new and upgraded ramp!”

Council will continue to provide updates as the project nears completion.
