New book showcases Whyalla coastline

Whyalla City Council has assisted in the publication of a new book highlighting the natural features, history and points of interest along Whyalla's coastline.

Introduction to Whyalla Coastline – written by local author / council’s Tourism Assets Officer Paul Mazourek – is now available to the community, providing an overview of the coastline from Douglas Point in the north to Murninnie Beach in the south.

The guide highlights significant coastal locations and aims to increase awareness and appreciation of the region's unique coastal environment.

Mr Mazourek said the book was the result of extensive research and a desire to share knowledge about one of Whyalla's most important natural assets.

"Whyalla's coastline is incredibly diverse and has a rich natural and cultural history of which many people may not be aware," Mr Mazourek said.

"This guide brings together information about the coastline in one place and encourages people to explore, learn and gain a greater understanding of the environment around them.

"I hope the publication serves as a useful resource for residents, visitors, students and anyone interested in the local area."

The book has already received praise from the Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency Frances Adamson, who remarked that it demonstrates Mr Mazourek’s “multifaceted skills as a geographer, historian, naturalist, photographer and author”, as well as his “powers of observation”, which help paint a vivid picture of the region.

Community members can borrow a copy of Introduction to Whyalla Coastline at the Whyalla Library, while copies are also available to purchase from the Whyalla Visitor Centre. Several other books produced by council and Mr Mazourek are also available at both locations, including Whyalla Architecture and City of Whyalla Art Collection.
