Mayor Phill Stone said the Citizen of the Year Awards were a chance to shine a spotlight on the people who quietly go above and beyond for their community.

“One of the best things about living in Whyalla is the people and every year these awards remind us just how lucky we are,” Mayor Stone said.

“From volunteers who never miss a shift, to community champions who’ve been giving their time for decades, these recipients are the kind of people who don’t do it for recognition, they do it because they care.”

“On behalf of council and the community, I’d like to say thank you and congratulations to each of this year’s award recipients. Whyalla is a better place because of you all.”

Community members are invited to watch the presentations via the livestream on Whyalla City Council’s Facebook page.
