Local focus strong in Mayor Stone's latest 'Philled In' update
Mayor Phill Stone has continued a strong start to 2026, with a series of engagements across February and March focused on community connection, regional collaboration and key projects shaping Whyalla’s future.
Over the past month, Mayor Stone has taken part in a range of council meetings, regional discussions, community events and media updates.
Mayor Stone said the period reflects the importance of collaboration at both a local and regional level.
“There’s a lot happening across Whyalla and the broader Eyre Peninsula, and it’s important we stay connected and continue working together on the issues that matter most,” Mayor Stone said.
“My focus remains on representing our community, progressing key projects and making sure residents are kept informed along the way.”

A cross-section of recent engagements includes:
- Media engagement across ABC and Triple Y, providing updates on major local projects including marina dredging, foreshore developments and new community infrastructure
- Participation in Eyre Peninsula Mayors meetings and EPLGA Conference discussions, addressing regional challenges such as weather impacts, transport issues and economic pressures
- Attendance at the Helping Hand Whyalla Care Homes redevelopment milestone event, celebrating investment in local aged care services
- Engagement with community initiatives including the HOPE Whyalla workshop and Clean Up Whyalla Day alongside council staff and Elected Members
- Representation at events including the Adelaide University Whyalla Campus graduation ceremony and the Whyalla Players’ 70th anniversary celebration
Mayor Stone also continued regular communication through his ‘From the Mayor’s Desk’ video updates and Whyalla News column, keeping residents informed on council decisions and project progress.
“Keeping our community informed is a priority,” he said.
“I encourage residents to stay engaged with council updates so they can understand how decisions are made and how projects are progressing across our city.”
