Got junk? Don't dump it!
Whyalla City Council is reminding residents that there are free and legal waste disposal options available across Whyalla, helping households responsibly dispose of unwanted items and reduce illegal dumping in the community.
Waste Officer Charuka Sanduni said residents have a range of available and are encouraged to use them rather than leaving items in public spaces.
Most people don’t realise how many free disposal options are available,” Ms Sanduni said. “If something can’t be reused or donated, there are easy ways to get rid of it responsibly.”

Council reminds the community that dumping items on roadsides, vacant land, reserves, or beside bins is illegal and may result in fines. If an item cannot be reused, donated, or sold, there are legitimate disposal pathways.
“Illegal dumping not only impacts the environment and visual amenity of our city, but it also places an unnecessary cost on the community,” Ms Sanduni said.
“There are many free disposal options available locally, so there’s no need for items to end up where they shouldn’t.”
To support increased demand, Whyalla City Council provides one free hard waste collection per household each calendar year, with the service delivered by Bedford.
A wide range of items can also be disposed of for free through local recycling and waste services, including:
- Batteries (household and automotive)
- E-waste such as TVs, computers and printers
- White goods
- Scrap metal
- Mobile phones and chargers
- Spectacles and glasses
- Cardboard, bottles and cans
- Printer cartridges, engine oil and more

Details of the free hard waste disposal options are outlined below.
