Free e-waste disposal now available at transfer station
Whyalla residents can now drop off eligible e-waste for free at the Whyalla Waste and Resources Transfer Station.
The service accepts a wide range of electrical and electronic items including:
- Computers, monitors, keyboards, laptops
- Kitchen appliances such as toasters, air fryers, kettles
- Hair dryers and hair straighteners
- Anything that is domestic, plugs into a power point, uses a charger or is powered by battery (with the battery removed before disposal).
Residents can bring their items to the transfer station, where staff will direct them to the e-waste drop-off area.
White goods, including fridges and dishwashers, are not accepted through the free service. Items with embedded batteries can only be accepted if the battery can be safely removed before drop-off.
Whyalla City Council Waste Officer Charuka Sanduni said the service made it easier to keep unwanted electronics out of landfill.
“We all have an old appliance or a drawer full of cables we’ve been meaning to get rid of,” Ms Sanduni said. “Now you can bring eligible items to the transfer station for free, and our staff will show you where they need to go.”
Collected e-waste is sent to Electronic Recycling Australia in Adelaide for recycling. Televisions and computer equipment are recycled through TechCollect under the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.

Batteries can be dropped off separately at council or supermarkets such as Woolworths, Coles and Aldi. By recycling batteries correctly, residents can help protect waste workers, reduce fire risks and contribute to a cleaner, safer community; ensuring everyone can Enjoy Whyalla!
