EPLGA Conference delivers economic and strategic benefits for Whyalla

Whyalla has strengthened its position as a regional leader and delivered a direct boost to the local economy following the successful hosting of this year’s Eyre Peninsula Local Government Association Conference.

With more than 150 delegates in the city including all 11 regional councils from across the Eyre Peninsula, State and Federal Government representatives, suppliers and key decision-makers the event created opportunities to promote Whyalla’s growth, priorities and future direction to stakeholders.

Mayor Phill Stone said the real value of hosting the conference was the exposure it generated for the community.

“The EPLGA Conference allowed us to directly showcase our projects, highlight our strategic priorities and strengthen relationships that support Whyalla’s future growth.”

Beyond the strategic benefits, the influx of visitors delivered an economic impact, with visitors utilising local accommodation, dining at local venues and supporting retailers throughout their stay. The program also included steelworks tours and foreshore, as well as functions at the Whyalla Maritime Museum, showcasing the city.

The event also reinforced Whyalla’s reputation as a host city, demonstrating the community’s ability to deliver professional events and attract regional gatherings that generate flow-on benefits for local businesses.

Feedback from attendees, speakers and sponsors was positive, further strengthening Whyalla’s standing within the regional local government network.

Hosting the EPLGA Conference has reinforced Whyalla’s role as a regional hub, creating economic benefit while building long-term partnerships and advocacy opportunities that will continue to support the city’s growth.
