Dog & Cat Registrations Are Now Due!
Katrina Newcombe, left, and Charmaine Papadontas from our Regulatory Team are encouraging everyone to register their dogs and cats today!
If you’re a dog or cat owner, now is the time to register your pets 🐶😺
All dog and cat owners need to register their animals annually with Council between 1 July and 31 August (a late fee may apply if registered after 31 August 2022), with rebates applying if your dog or cat is de-sexed and microchipped.
All registration fees go towards services and facilities that benefit dogs and cats in our city, including dog parks; waste bag dispensers; staff to manage animals that are lost etc; and the provision of a pound for lost animals.
If you own a dog or cat that is currently registered with Council, you should have received (or will shortly receive) a registration renewal notification via post, email or SMS.
The process to renew your dog and cat registration in Dogs And Cats Online (DACO) is quick and simple – go to www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au and login (if you are an existing user) or register. Payment for registrations can be made securely online in DACO using a Visa credit or debit card.
If ownership of the animal has been transferred to you by another person since it was last registered, the current owner must initiate the transfer in DACO and provide details of the new owner. The new owner will receive a transfer code which is used in DACO to “claim” the animal.
Council customer service staff are also happy to assist residents with any issues relating to DACO, and payments for registration can still be made over the counter at Council’s Civic Building in Darling Terrace for those preferring that method.
A reminder that:
- Expiation notices can be issued to owners found to be keeping an unregistered dog or cat
- All dogs and cats – regardless of age – must be microchipped
- Having your dog or cat microchipped does not mean it is registered with Council
- It is a requirement under the Dog and Cat Management Act to update DACO if your dog or cat:
- Has died
- Is removed from where it is usually kept with the intention that it will be kept at some other place
- Has been missing for more than 72 hours
- Has its ownership transferred to another person
