Discover your story this May with Whyalla's Family History Group
The Whyalla Public Library is welcoming residents to explore their roots and uncover local stories this May as part of the 2026 SA History Festival, with the Whyalla Family History Group offering family history support sessions.
Held every Wednesday in May from 2pm to 4pm in the Library’s Local History Room, the sessions will give community members the opportunity to receive one-on-one assistance with researching and documenting their family history using a range of resources.
The sessions are open to all experience levels, whether participants are just beginning their family history journey or looking to build on existing research.
Whyalla Public Library Coordinator Natalie Williams said the SA History Festival was the perfect opportunity to celebrate local stories.
“Having the Whyalla Family History Group based at the library during the SA History Festival is valuable for our community,” Ms Williams said.
“The group’s knowledge, passion and willingness to help others discover their family stories creates a welcoming and engaging environment for anyone interested in learning more about their heritage.”
The Whyalla Family History Group plays an important role in helping preserve local and family histories, assisting residents with research and encouraging interest in genealogy.
Community members are encouraged to drop in to any of the Wednesday sessions during May, with no bookings required.
