Customer requests increase as council continues focus on service delivery

Whyalla City Council is thanking residents for playing an active role in improving the city’s appearance by reporting local issues.

In the past four months, almost 2,500 customer requests were received – an increase of almost 200 for the same period last year. March recorded the highest number, with residents in particular keen to see illegal dumping addressed.

Despite the increase, council was able to complete about 80 percent of all requests received during that period.

Mayor Phill Stone said the figures demonstrated council and the community working together to address issues and maintain service standards.

"Every customer request represents a resident taking the time to tell us about something that matters to them – whether it's a pothole, illegal dumping, a damaged bin or a concern in their neighbourhood," Mayor Stone said.

"Our teams work hard to investigate and action these requests as quickly as possible, so it's pleasing to see a large percentage of all requests received during the reporting period have already been completed."

Council's response times also remained strong, with nearly half of all requests completed within 24 hours of being reported, while the more difficult requests are then scheduled into work plans.

Requests received by phone remained the community's preferred method of contact, while the My Local Services (MLS) app continued its steady growth, now accounting for about one in five customer contacts with council.

Mayor Stone reemphasised that customer requests help council understand where residents are seeing issues and where resources need to be focused.

“It’s important the community and council keep working together – it’s to everyone’s benefit and helps ensure we can all Enjoy Whyalla,” he said.

“I thank those residents who are already reporting matters; and encourage others to let us know through the official channels if they see an issue. These channels ensure all reports can be tracked, investigated and resolved.”

Residents can submit customer requests through MLS, council's website, email, by phone or in person.
