Clear out and cash in with this year’s Garage Sale Trail

Whyalla residents can turn unwanted items into extra cash when Australia’s biggest second-hand treasure hunt returns this November.

The 2026 Garage Sale Trail will take place across two weekends – 7–8 and 14–15 November – giving residents plenty of opportunities to host a sale or hunt for a bargain.

Sellers can take part on one day or across multiple days, with registrations free through the Garage Sale Trail website.

Whyalla City Council Waste Officer Charuka Sanduni said the event was a simple and enjoyable way to give unwanted belongings another chance to be useful.

“Most of us have something tucked away in a cupboard or shed that we haven’t used in years – and if you forgot you owned it, that might be your sign to sell it,” Ms Sanduni said.

“Garage Sale Trail is a great excuse to have a clear-out, make a little extra money and meet some fellow bargain hunters along the way.

“Your unwanted items could be exactly what someone else has been searching for, and every item sold is one less item potentially ending up in landfill.”

Individuals, households, schools, community groups and neighbours can host garage sales, market stalls, car boot sales or larger street events. Registered sellers receive access to free promotional materials, practical tips and support to help advertise and run their sale.

Shoppers will also be able to use the Garage Sale Trail website closer to the event to find registered sales in Whyalla and plan their treasure-hunting route.
