Clean-up Australia Month launches in Whyalla
Whyalla City Council is inviting residents, schools and community organisations to roll up their sleeves, grab a bag and help improve the city’s environment as local Clean-up Australia activities begin today.
While Clean-up Australia Day is traditionally held on the first Sunday of March, Whyalla groups are encouraged to choose any day throughout March to host their own clean-up events at locations across the city.
To support volunteers, council is offering a limited number of incentive packages for participating groups. Each package includes a donation to help host a thank-you BBQ, free disposal at the Veolia Waste Transfer Station, and promotion of the group’s efforts through council’s social media channels. A number of groups have already registered, so organisers are encouraged to get involved early and make sure they are part of this year’s effort.
Community groups can register a public clean-up event open to all residents or hold a private clean-up for members, families and friends. Schools are also encouraged to participate as part of environmental education and community pride initiatives. Registrations for Clean-up Australia are free for community groups and schools and include a clean-up kit with safety equipment and insurance coverage to help organisers run safe and effective events.
Participants are asked to register their activity online via the Clean-up Australia website and then send their registration details to Whyalla City Council so logistics and incentive support can be arranged.
Be sure to hurry to secure one of the limited incentive packages on offer by contacting council before the cut-off date of 5pm Friday 6 March 2026 by emailing waste@whyalla.sa.gov.au and join us in our efforts to help our community Enjoy Whyalla!
