Civic Park upgrades create more ways to enjoy the space
There’s plenty that’s new at Civic Park, with upgrades creating more places to play, enjoy, exercise and spend time outdoors.
The revitalisation of Civic Park has been shaped by community input, ensuring it reflects the needs and ideas of residents. Key upgrades include a brand-new playground, improved lawn areas, upgraded car parking, modern public amenities, a new pickleball court, upgraded basketball courts and additional seating and shade shelters.
Mayor Phill Stone said the upgrades had brought new energy to the park and created more ways for people to enjoy it.
“There’s a lot more happening there now, and that’s exactly what these upgrades were about,” Mayor Stone said.
“You can bring the kids to the playground, shoot some hoops, try your hand at pickleball or just claim a bench and relax.”
“It’s great to see the space offering something for different ages, interests and ways people like to spend their time.”
The playground redevelopment, guided by community feedback, delivers modern play equipment designed to cater to a wide range of ages and abilities. New lawn areas, upgraded recreation spaces and additional shade and seating also support everyday use and community events.

General Manager of City Growth, Jodie Perone, said community feedback had played an important role in shaping the project.
“A lot of thought has gone into making sure this is a space people will genuinely use and enjoy,” Ms Perone said.
“We undertook significant consultation including the nearby primary schools and the young people and families already using the park and heard what they wanted. They sought a park that catered for different age groups and improved activities, as well as equipment that provides for all abilities, and I’m proud to say that those ideas transitioned into the finished product.”
Council also acknowledges the contribution of Fulton Hogan, who upgraded the Civic Park car park as a gesture to the Whyalla community.
As part of the upgrade, new public toilet facilities have been installed. The original Civic Park toilets will now be closed for general day-to-day use and will only be opened during events.
To support the operation of the new facilities, clear signage outlining opening hours has been installed inside each cubicle:
Toilets – Opening Hours
* Daylight Saving Time: 6:00am – 9:00pm
* Non-Daylight Saving Time: 6:00am – 6:00pm
