Citizen of the Year Awards 2027

Nominations are now open for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards.

Help celebrate Whyalla’s community champions

Nominations are now open for the 2027 Citizen of the Year Awards, so now’s the time to nominate the people and groups who help make Whyalla a better place to live.

The awards are a chance to shine a light on local residents, volunteers and organisations whose efforts often go unnoticed, but have a lasting impact across the community.

We’re encouraging residents to take the time to nominate someone deserving, as the awards are an important way to formally acknowledge those who give so much to Whyalla.

There are many people in our city who make a real difference through their service, generosity and commitment. Although it can take some time to gather supporting information to do the nominee justice, that effort is a small price to pay for recognising someone who deserves our thanks.

The annual awards recognise residents and achievers who contribute their time, energy and skills to benefit others.

The Citizen, Young Citizen and Senior Citizen of the Year categories honour individuals who have made a meaningful contribution over the past year, while also taking into account their broader service and achievements beyond normal employment duties.

Community Service Awards recognise outstanding service to a particular organisation or activity.

Examples of areas nominees could contribute to include education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary service, business, sport, the arts, the environment, or any other activity that supports the wellbeing and advancement of the community.

Nominees must be Australian citizens, with Young Citizen nominees under 30 years of age on 26 January 2027 and Senior Citizen nominees aged 65 years or older.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, October 30. Click here to start your nomination now!

The Citizen of the Year Awards are presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia in partnership with councils across the state. Whyalla’s award recipients will be recognised at a special ceremony in January 2027.
