Call for feedback on Whyalla’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

Whyalla City Council is encouraging residents to have their say on its draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2025–2029, with the consultation period closing this Friday (30 October).

The draft plan outlines practical actions to reduce barriers and improve accessibility, inclusion and participation for people living with disability across Whyalla.

People with disability, carers, families, service providers and community organisations are particularly encouraged to provide feedback to help ensure the final plan reflects local needs and priorities.

Developed through research, community data and consultation with people with lived experience of disability, carers, support providers and community organisations, the draft recognises the opportunities and challenges of creating a more inclusive regional community.

It focuses on five priority areas: Inclusive Communities and Environments; Education and Employment; Personal and Community Support; Health and Wellbeing; and Safety, Rights and Justice.

These priorities provide a framework for council to improve access to community life and support opportunities for residents and visitors with disability to participate, contribute and belong.

The DAIP has been developed under the Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) and aligns with Inclusive SA, South Australia’s State Disability Inclusion Plan.

This final consultation period gives the community an opportunity to review the proposed actions and identify anything further Council should consider before the plan is finalised.

All feedback received will be considered before the plan is presented to Council for adoption.

Feedback can be provided by calling Gail Rostig, Manager City Activation, on 0447 570 401, or emailing Council@whyalla.sa.gov.au, by close of business on Friday 30 October 2026.
