Ada Ryan Gardens Basketball Court upgrade complete
13.01.2026
Basketballers rejoice! Upgrading of the Ada Ryan Gardens basketball court has been completed and the facility is now open for free community use.
The project included removal of the existing court, site preparation works, installation of a new full-size playing surface, and establishment of an adjacent grassed section providing additional spectator space for families and visitors to enjoy.
Mayor Phill Stone said the upgrade was a positive addition for the community.
“Ada Ryan Gardens attracts thousands of residents and visitors every year. It’s a beautiful place to which so many people naturally gravitate – whether it’s to play recreational sport, or simply to spend time with family enjoying being outdoors. It will no doubt now become even busier.
“The basketball court adds to the three tennis courts already well used, and I look forward to seeing even more people enjoying one of the city’s most loved parks,” Mayor Stone said.

Project Manager Sam Bourne was excited by the “unlocking of the gate” with the project now ready for Whyalla’s basketball enthusiasts to “take to the court.”
Further recreational developments at the gardens will be considered as part of future budget deliberations.
The upgrade was delivered by specialist contractors Limonta Sport and Elite Asphalt, with support from local contractors Dunstall Excavations, Whyalla Earthworks and See Us Maintenance, along with Council staff.
Council looks forward to seeing the upgraded court continue to be used and enjoyed by residents, families and visitors.
