A little art, a little reading: Point Lowly’s Street Libraries
Two colourful Street Libraries at the Point Lowly campsite are giving visitors another reason to pause, pick up a book and enjoy our coastline.
Installed by Whyalla City Council and decorated by the Whyalla Art Group, the libraries combine community book sharing with artwork celebrating our city.
Council’s Events and Tourism Lead Jenny Barnes said the art group transformed the undecorated libraries into something special.
“The result is stunning; two beautiful bespoke Street Libraries that also serve as miniature artworks, showcasing Whyalla,” Ms Barnes said.
The designs feature familiar local sights, including Whyalla’s circular jetty, seaside daisies, seagulls and marine life, including our iconic cuttlefish.
“These libraries evoke a feeling of joy,” Ms Barnes said.

Mounted on the campsite’s revamped amenities block, the libraries complement improvements to the campground and provide a welcoming touch for visitors.
The project has also been featured by Street Library Australia, recognising the collaboration between Council and the Whyalla Art Group.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to browse the books, find something to read or contribute a book for someone else to enjoy on their next visit to Point Lowly.
