Whyalla Town Ambassador Program
Whyalla businesses and customer-facing workers have an opportunity to expand their local knowledge and customer service skills through the Town Ambassador Program—a free initiative designed to promote Whyalla as a premier destination to live, work, and visit.
The program aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to highlight Whyalla’s strengths and create a welcoming experience for visitors. It includes two days’ worth of experiences and training, with participants visiting local businesses and attractions and gaining insights into regional events.
Whyalla City Council CEO Justin Commons said Whyalla was on the cusp of great developments, so it was essential to have ambassadors who can confidently promote our city.
"With substantial investment committed to Whyalla by the State and Federal governments, we need knowledgeable and enthusiastic individuals on the front line to showcase Whyalla as a great place to live, work, and play," he said.
“Obviously the city is currently having its struggles, but the State Government has already committed to the long-term future of the Whyalla steelworks, so this is part of setting our city up for the long-term, rather than being held back by our current issues.”
Economic Development Manager at Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula (RDAEP), Richard Horgan encouraged people to get on board soon, with the program already proving popular.
“With strong interest already shown across the Eyre Peninsula—19 of the 40 available spots are already filled—it shows there’s a lot of enthusiasm for this program, so we’re confident it will deliver significant benefits for Whyalla,” Mr Horgan said.
Businesses and workers in retail, hospitality, accommodation and tourism are encouraged to register early, with two program intakes available:
Program 1: Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th March, 9.00am – 3.00pm
Program 2: Wednesday 2nd & Thursday 3rd April, 9.00am – 3.00pm
The program is proudly brought to Whyalla by RDAEP; funded by the Local Buying Foundation, and supported by Whyalla Business and Tourism, Whyalla City Council and Des’ Cabs. TAFE SA is the delivery partner of the program.
