Whyalla residents encouraged to participate in textile drive

20 October 2025

Whyalla City Council is inviting residents to give their pre-loved clothing, footwear and linens a second chance at life by taking part in Green Industries SA’s Set Your Clothes Free — South Australia’s largest-ever clothing and linen donation drive.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 1 from 9am to 3pm, with the Whyalla City Council Office on Grundel Street serving as the local drop-off point.

Residents are encouraged to drop off high-quality, wearable clothing and footwear, as well as household linens in any condition, including sheets, towels and tablecloths. The event aims to reduce textile waste going to landfill, while supporting charitable organisations that rely on quality donations.

Collected clothing, footwear and linens that are of a high quality will be sorted and distributed to participating charitable organisations for resale, helping to raise funds for community programs and services.

“Whyalla residents have already shown great commitment to waste reduction through recycling and reuse programs,” said Waste Officer, Charuka Sanduni.

“By taking part in this initiative, our community can take another important step in reducing waste and supporting the circular economy — ensuring that good-quality clothing can find a second life through charitable reuse.”

What can I drop off?

  • Clothing and footwear in good, wearable condition – if you wouldn’t gift it to a friend, don’t donate it.
  • Household linen textiles in any condition – worn down, torn or paint-stained, as long as they’re washed.

Items not accepted: poor-quality clothing and footwear, doonas, pillows and mattresses.

How do I drop off?

Simply drive to the council office at 21 Grundel Street and you will see way finding signs on where to go, alternatively there is a map below to show you.
