Whyalla Library celebrates young achievers at Children's University Graduation

Recently, the Whyalla Public Library and Mayor Phill Stone proudly celebrated local children by attending the Children’s University Graduation.

Mayor Phill Stone opened the ceremony with a congratulatory address, followed by guest speaker Dr Jacqueline Barsby, a former Whyalla student and 2025 Young South Australian of the Year for STEM, who joined the Mayor in presenting awards.

Children’s University provides a broad mix of engaging learning experiences including workshops, holiday activities and online challenges that are all recorded in a ‘Passport to Learning’ that builds toward formal graduation in caps and gowns. As a Children’s University Australasia (CUA) Partner, the library offers extended learning opportunities that contribute to students’ awards. Participants earn credit through the CUA online portal, after-school sessions hosted at the library, and visits to approved destinations such as the library and Visitor Centre.

Library Coordinator Natalie Williams said, “CUA inspires young people to take charge of their learning, try new experiences, and aim high, and it’s wonderful to see Whyalla children being recognised for their efforts,”

“These young people continue to impress us! And we’re proud to play a role in their learning journey and to see them recognised for their commitment.”
