Whyalla Football League joins this year's Mental Health Matters Round
Whyalla will once again unite for the Mental Health Matters Round, starting with the Whyalla Netball Association’s event this weekend on 15–16 August. The following weekend, the Whyalla Football League will take to the field for their own round, bringing the community together to raise awareness about the importance of mental health.
The Football Mental Health Matters Round will be held on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 August, kicking off from 4:00pm at Bennett Oval. On Friday night, the community can enjoy inclusive sport activities with Why Day, live music by Mel n Me, and the chance to meet former AFL players Paul Seedsman and Ned McHenry for signings and giveaways.
Matches will take place at Bennett and Memorial Oval, with the following teams playing: South Whyalla, Weeroona Bay, North Whyalla, West Whyalla, Roopena, and Central Whyalla.

A key feature of the round will be the SANFL’s Tackle Your Feelings program – a free mental health training session for AFL and netball coaches, committee members, players aged 16+, and club support staff. Funded by the Whyalla City Council, AFL Coaches Association, AFL Players Association, and Zurich Insurance, the program is designed to equip community sport leaders with the skills to understand, recognise, and respond to signs of mental ill-health.
