Whyalla Christmas Relief Appeal returns to support local families
The Whyalla Christmas Relief Committee, made up of staff from local agencies and Whyalla City Council, has once again come together to deliver Christmas hampers and gifts to residents most in need.
Christmas Relief Committee member Alberto Salatino said the generosity shown each year continues to make a real difference for local families, “every year, the kindness of the Whyalla community shows, these hampers and gifts mean so much to families doing it tough. We’re grateful for everyone who helps bring joy to households at Christmas.”

Last year, more than 750 hampers were distributed across Whyalla thanks to community support, donations from local businesses, and contributions from participating agencies.
Local businesses and community members continue to play a vital role through the donation of children’s gifts, including those collected during the Whyalla Toy Run.
Where to Donate Gifts:
- Gift Tree Location: Behind the staircase in the Whyalla City Council foyer, near reception
- Gift Tags: Select a tag showing an age group you’d like to buy for
- Gift Value: Up to $30 (smaller items are welcome so parents can choose multiple gifts)
- Important: All gifts must be unwrapped
- Deadline: Gifts will be collected on Friday, 5 December
In addition to hampers and gifts, Thread Together will again provide brand-new clothing, shoes, pyjamas, and underwear. This partnership has become a valued part of the appeal, ensuring families can receive new, high-quality clothing during the festive season.
Whyalla City Council thanks all contributors and encourages residents, businesses, and community members to support the appeal and help bring joy to families this Christmas.
This initiative is proudly supported by Whyalla City Council.
