New lawn and play space for Civic Park
The upgrade of Whyalla’s Civic Park is well underway, with the latest stage of works focusing on new lawn installation and upgrades to the play space.
Last Thursday approximately 2,000 square metres of fresh lawn was laid around the half-court basketball area and skate park. The work was a whole-of-council effort, with staff from various departments lending a hand, employees joined forces to help to complete the large-scale job efficiently.
Project Manager Sam Bourne said, “It was wonderful to see so many staff coming together to help lay the lawn,” Mr Bourne said. “It was a large area to cover, but with so many hands helping, the job was completed efficiently and with great teamwork. Civic Park is really starting to come to life, and we’re excited for the community to enjoy it once complete.”

Progress is also well underway in the play space area, with several key components now in place:
- All concrete works have been completed
- Fencing installation has commenced
- Internal landscaping is scheduled to begin this week
