Introducing Sport and Recreation Community Spotlights

Whyalla City Council is proud to launch the Sport and Recreation Community Spotlights series – an exciting new initiative designed to showcase the benefits of sport and community connection.

The short videos will highlight local groups and individuals who have experienced firsthand how sport and recreation can bring people together, improve wellbeing, and create community connections. Some of the featured groups have been supported through the Connected & Active Communities (CAC) program, through the Expressions of Interest funding process, while others have benefited from community grants.

The purpose of the series is to:

  • Increase awareness of the wide range of social sporting opportunities available locally.
  • Demonstrate the benefits of sport and recreation for those not currently connected.
  • Provide youth with relatable role models who make sport and recreation fun and inspiring.

Community Activation Officer Alberto Salatino said the Spotlights are an important way of sharing positive local stories.

“This is a great initiative that promotes the many sport and recreation opportunities available in Whyalla. Council is proud to support programs that encourage participation in our community.”

The first episode features Julia, Co-Director of the Whyalla Foreshore Park Run, who shares insights into the welcoming and supportive environment of the group.

Look forward to more stories to come in the weeks ahead.
