Expression of Interest: Connected & Active Communities funding opportunity

The City of Whyalla is calling on local sporting clubs and community organisations to submit expressions of interest for funding under the Connected & Active Communities (CAC) Program. This quick-response funding opportunity is open now and will cease once funds are exhausted.

The CAC Program is a place-based initiative designed to increase physical activity participation and create equitable access to sport and recreation opportunities.

The City of Whyalla is looking to hear from sporting clubs and community organisations with project proposals that address the following key areas:

  • Youth Groups: Understanding the needs of individuals currently not engaging in sport and recreation and providing safe, inclusive programs and environments.
  • Developing Clubs of the Future: Supporting clubs to adapt, grow, and thrive in meeting the evolving needs of Whyalla residents.
  • Activating Sporting Facilities and Natural Recreation Assets: Encouraging the use of existing spaces through innovative programs that engage the community.

We are looking to fund projects that:

  • Increase physical activity participation
  • Grow community and social connectedness
  • Create equitable access and reduce social isolation
  • Improve mental health and wellbeing in our community

“If you have an idea or project that fits these criteria, we encourage you to apply for funding,” said Community Activation Officer – Sport and Recreation, Alberto Salatino. “Non-traditional sports are also encouraged to apply, as we aim to create a broad and inclusive sporting landscape in Whyalla.”

Gail Rostig added, “We are excited to offer this chance to our local clubs and organisations. Whyalla has been through a tough time, and we are looking to activate and connect the community through this opportunity. If you are not sure if your idea fits the program, pick up the phone and give us a call.”
