Council seeks community feedback on Disability Access and Inclusion Plan
Whyalla City Council is calling on community members to share their feedback to help shape the refreshing of the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.
Council is currently reviewing its inaugural DAIP (2020–2024), which laid the foundation for ensuring people living with disability have greater opportunities to access and participate in mainstream services, programs, and events.
The new plan will continue to guide council’s commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive city where everyone can contribute and feel connected.
Mayor Phill Stone said community input is vital in ensuring the refreshed plan reflects lived experiences.
“We know that accessibility is more than ramps and carparks, it’s also about attitudes, opportunities, and expectations,” Mayor Stone said.
“This consultation is about listening to our community so we can build on our progress.”
The plan will align with the Disability Inclusion Act 2018,), and the State Disability Inclusion Plan 2025–2029, ensuring council continues to meet state and national frameworks.
Manager of City Activation, Gail Rostig, encouraged everyone to get involved, whether or not they participated in the previous consultation process.
Access & Inclusion is fundamental to quality of life, it’s about ensuring every person feels they belong and can participate fully,” Ms Rostig said.
“Your feedback will directly inform the updated plan and help us create a community where diversity is valued and supported.”
