Boat ramp upgrade ready to start
07 November 2025
Following on from previous announcements regarding the major upgrade of the Whyalla boat ramp, there is now an updated timeline for the project, with early site works due to start next Monday 10 November.
The ramp has reached the end of its service life, so is being upgraded to ensure the community continues to have a safe, accessible and usable facility for years to come. This will include the demolition and removal of the existing ramp and pontoons, followed by the construction of a brand-new boat ramp and the installation of new pontoons.
There will be significant activity in the marina area, including areas being fenced off for equipment and site accommodation (map below). However, the ramp will remain open to the public for the majority of the project – including being available as usual through until Christmas – with only occasional closures of a few hours or a day required for key construction activities after Christmas. We will keep the community informed prior to these instances.
The project – being undertaken by Civil Tech Pty Ltd – is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2026. Be sure to keep an eye on our website and download the My Local Services app for regular project updates. You can read our initial release on the project here.
This project was made possible by funding from the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Program.
