Whyalla Winter Sleepout and Fundraiser

Council alongside Mission Australia and other community agencies and businesses have joined forces to bring to you Whyalla’s inaugural Homelessness Sleepout and Fundraiser. Join us in fundraising for local resources and awareness raising to support young people within the Whyalla community experiencing homelessness.

In Whyalla, an increasing number of young people are experiencing what is often termed as hidden homelessness or couch surfing. This could look like living temporarily with other households – perhaps sleeping on friends’ sofas, or in the spare room or garage of a relative and often moving regularly.

Council will be registering a team for this year’s Homelessness Sleepout and fundraising to support and raise awareness of young people within the community experiencing homelessness. If you would like to contribute to councils fundraising goal of $500, you can donate by clicking the button.

Mayor Phill Stone encourages the community to participate in any way they can ‘’I am proud to see that the council has entered a team this year. This initiative is vital for the Whyalla community to come together and raise support and awareness for homelessness. You can also support this cause by donating online and sharing this message to spread the word and increase awareness.’’

So, how does it work?

Step 1: Sign up and register your team. Create your online fundraising page through the main fundraising page to contribute to fundraising goal.

Sign up and register!

Step 2: Plan fundraising activities to reach your team’s fundraising target. Register your team to sleepout on September 20.

Step 3: Sleepout and spend the night! Not able to sleepout? Your team can still fundraise to support the community goal.

What to Expect:

Fundraising: Rally your friends, family and colleagues to support your participation by raising funds that will benefit those experiencing homelessness locally.

Sleepout Experience: Spend the night outdoors and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness.

Awareness on homelessness: Engage with community leaders, service providers, and individuals with lived experiences to learn more about homelessness in Whyalla and the steps we can take as a community.
