Whyalla unites for mental health awareness

09 August 2024

Whyalla is coming together to raise mental health awareness in our community, while providing a jam-packed weekend of awesome events and special guests!

The inaugural ‘Mental Health Matters Round’ will take place over the weekend of 23-24 August – a collaboration between Whyalla City Council, headspace and the Whyalla Football League (WFL); being funded by Wellbeing SA and Whyalla Suicide Prevention Network.

The round will see the WFL A-grade teams in guernseys specially designed by local school students (more on that to come), as well as the opportunity to meet former AFL players Rory Sloane and James Podsiadly and partake in a host of family-friendly activities. Then Saturday night will be rocking with local artists Lost In Sounds and Emma Taylor playing at the Westland Hotel, plus the chance to win some great prizes.

This will not only be a truly epic weekend, but also help raise money and awareness for mental health in our community – with proceeds going towards local mental health organisations and programs – so make sure you get involved! Check out the flyers for all the detail.

A huge thank you to our local sponsors Santos, Golding, Cleanaway, BOC, Stassi Consulting Engineers, Country Outback Health and Aquest for helping make the event possible.

Also a timely reminder that there are a number of free services available to everyone in the community if you’re ever struggling and feel you need support. Be sure to look up Lifeline, Beyond Blue, Kids Helpline or 1300 Yarn to find out how they can help.
