Local youth benefit from council support

D’faces of Youth Arts are the latest recipients of Whyalla City Council’s Community Grants program, helping ensure improved facilities for young Whyalla artists.

Although being in a positive position of experiencing significant growth, D’faces encountered challenges with their facilities, as limited storage space had led to overcrowding and safety concerns. Council’s grant funding will help D’faces construct a dedicated storage shed to declutter their performance space and improve safety.

D’faces Creative Producer Michal Hughes expressed gratitude for the Council’s support, stating ''we were so grateful to receive this funding from Council. It helped us secure the rest of the money needed to undertake this project without impacting our operations. The application process was really simple, and this grant ultimately benefits our organisation and the community who use our facilities.”

Council’s Community Grants and Donations Program aims to support community initiatives that benefit the recreational, cultural, and social activities of the city by providing financial assistance to residents and organisations to assist in implementing projects.

The program offers two types of funding:

- Donations: For funding requests between $100 and $500.

- Community Grants: For funding requests between $501 and $5,000.

These funding opportunities aim to support accessible infrastructure, promote active and passive recreation, and encourage events and activities within the Whyalla community.  Council is proud to support local organisations through this program.

Manager of City Activation Gail Rostig highlighted the significance of these grants, saying “council is proud to support our community via our Community Grants program, providing monetary assistance of up to $5,000 to undertake larger community-based projects, initiatives, or activities. These grants promote positive social change by allowing applicants to implement projects that can have a meaningful impact on the quality of life in our community. We are thrilled to support initiatives like D’faces’ storage facilities upgrade, which aligns with our mission to create an actively engaged and thriving Whyalla community.”
