Hydrogen presents unique opportunity for local business
22 August 2024
The State Government’s Hydrogen Jobs Plan has announced that it has secured development approval for the project, moving Whyalla a significant step closer to becoming a global leader in hydrogen production and innovation.
With this now secured, a number of early civil works packages have been released for expressions of interest, particularly targeting local business. The project team are also offering a rare opportunity for one-on-one sessions with their representatives, so local businesses can gain insight into what’s required, determine if they have the capability, and also get assistance in registering for the packages.
Mayor Phill Stone welcomed the latest announcement, which demonstrates ongoing progress on the project as it approaches early site works later this year.
“It’s always fantastic news to see major projects like this progressing, and it’s even more important when it’s opening up opportunities for local business,” Mayor Stone said.
“I encourage any local businesses and contractors with the relevant capability to take advantage of this opportunity by attending the open day to find out more, and then submitting an expression of interest.
“There’s a wide variety of opportunities – from earthworks, roadworks and clearing; to guttering, fencing and signage – so be sure to check out the packages available and throw your hat in the ring to be part of this once-in-a-generation opportunity.”
Mining and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the release of these packages demonstrates the government is a major step closer to commencing construction on the ground-breaking facility.
“There is no shortage of businesses in Whyalla and across the Upper Spencer Gulf well equipped to deliver this work, and we want to see as many local organisations as possible involved from the get-go,” Minister Koutsantonis said.
