Have your say on council events

Have your say now on Whyalla City Council’s Draft Event Strategy and help shape the future of events in our city!
The strategy aims to enable the delivery of events that help Whyalla become a more vibrant, culturally engaged community, where creativity supports wellbeing, education, and economic sustainability.
Mayor Phill Stone said that as Whyalla’s population and regional industry continue to evolve, so too will the community’s interest in a diverse range of events and festivals, so this strategy is pivotal in meeting those changing needs.
“The Whyalla community is a wonderfully diverse mix of cultures and nationalities, with a strong desire for community-run events,” Mayor Stone said.
“Vibrant community events play a vital role in social connections, increasing visitation and economic development, which is why council delivers or supports a wide range of events each year.. These cover a varied portfolio including community, sports and recreation, history, environmental, arts and culture, social, youth, seniors, disability, and tourism.
“Providing council with your opinion on this draft strategy will assist us in having clear directions for the planning, delivery and decision-making in relation to events in Whyalla – now and into the future.”
Mayor Stone encouraged residents to check out the strategy to get a better idea of what council offers and / or supports and the role it plays in a wide range of community events.
“We are often asked why we don’t run every major community event, but that simply wouldn’t be possible from a cost, logistic nor resource perspective,” he said.
“We focus on organising several major events each year, while providing varied levels of support to dozens of others to assist the organising groups and help spread the cost / logistic load across the community.”
