Cuttlefest 2024 kicks off
16 May 2024
Get ready to celebrate – the amazing Australian Giant Cuttlefish have started arriving in the coastal waters near Stony Point, signalling the start of Whyalla’s annual Cuttlefest celebrations 🦑.
There will be events happening all around the city between May and August, with lots of family-friendly, free, adventurous, and creative events to take part in.
Mayor Phill Stone said he was excited about this year’s Cuttlefest line-up of events and encouraged everyone to get involved.
“The unique experience of the cuttlefish coming to the coastline is globally significant, so organising a host of events for visitors and our community to enjoy to complement this phenomenon is really important to council. This year is the biggest program of events yet, there really is something for everyone.” Mayor Stone said.
"Other organisations and businesses are on board, sponsoring and hosting events that will take place around the city, helping make it a community-wide spectacle. Although the focus is on the cuttlefish, you don’t need to get anywhere near the water to participate, as numerous cuttlefish-themed events will take place on dry land.’’
Mayor Stone also mentioned his anticipation for the Salty ‘Seaesta event being held on June 8 in Ada Ryan Gardens, offering free, exciting, experiences for the entire community. There will be entertainment on the mainstage, roving artists, and a kid’s zone with marine themed hand’s on activities. Meanwhile, local makers and creatives will set up their market stalls supported by plenty of food and beverages on offer. A huge thankyou to Des’s Cabs there’s a FREE bus to get you too and from the event. Stay tuned for more details soon!
