Customer Requests and Community Feedback
Whyalla City Council’s Depot Administration team has efficiently managed a significant volume of customer requests recently, helping address community feedback while demonstrating the effectiveness of using council’s official customer request channels.
During the second quarter of 2024, the depot closed out a total of 547 requests, demonstrating the large volume that council addresses each quarter.
The most common requests continue to be related to kerbing, footpaths, trees, and weeds, highlighting the team’s ongoing focus on maintaining public infrastructure and green spaces.
Mayor Phill Stone said "These teams are made up of our residents—they want a nice city too, so they do their utmost to ensure they’re addressing the needs of our community.
“It’s easy to criticise the work that isn’t being done, but people need to understand we have a large city and a limited crew, so not all problems will be fixed overnight.
“Our team are out there to serve, and it’s important to recognise the great work they do – we all want Whyalla to be the best it possibly can.’’
Following our close out of customer requests, we have received several positive feedback comments regarding the excellent service:
Customer Correspondence Highlights
- Foreshore Lights: "A HUGE THANK YOU for getting the lights sorted so swiftly. You guys are awesome.’’
- Cemetery Assistance: "Council webpage does not have a compliments section. After travelling through SA and staying in Whyalla (home to my grandparents and other relatives), I only had one night to check cemetery detail. Timothy Butt kindly and promptly sent all the details before I left Whyalla. I would like to thank Timothy for responding so quickly; this would not happen in Vic."
- Parks and Gardens Mowing: "A resident from Edgar Street called to say that whoever is on the mower is doing an exceptional job. He got off his mower to move other greens so he could mow them up as well. The resident was very impressed."
- Road Patching: "That’s amazing service. Thank you!"
- Tree Planting: "Thank you so much for responding so quickly regarding my request to have a plant on the verge in front of my property. I will keep an eye on it and water when necessary. I do love callistemons."
- Street Light Repair: "Your prompt attention to my request for the repair of a non-functional streetlight is greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your efficient handling."
‘’I want to thank everyone for their supportive comments. Our staff need encouragement, not just criticism, as they continue to make Whyalla a better place to live." said Mayor Stone.
“Council is proud of the positive feedback from the community and remains committed to providing high-quality services that enhance the city’s infrastructure and natural environment.”
To ensure that issues are addressed promptly, residents are encouraged to use the proper customer request channels. While it can be tempting to air concerns on social media, this does not guarantee that they will reach the right teams. By lodging requests through official channels, such as the website or using the My Local Services app, residents can ensure their requests are handled efficiently. If you want something done, it's important to go about it the right way.
