Published 2nd February 2024

Barngarla artworks

Barngarla artists Jody Croft and Jason Croft, have made these artworks, specifically commissioned for the 8-Mile Creek and Murrippi nature reserve walks—a collaborative project initiated by Landscape SA, National Parks, and Council cooperation, set to reach completion by the end of June 2024.

The paintings are now official part of the City of Whyalla Art Collection and will be used in graphics for the walking trails signage, promotion, brochures and more. Both Jason and Jody already contributed their artwork for the Council’s First Nation trail at the Northern coastline in 2021/22.

Thank you, Jody and Jason, for these invaluable artworks!

Australia Day Picnic

The Australia Day picnic was a success! It featured live music, an amazing performance by the Splash Test Dummies, whose acrobatic and comedic talent wowed us all. Ada Ryan Gardens was filled with families enjoying the live music, local food vendors, entertainment, games, animal balloons and more!

Here are just some of the wonderful moments captured on the day.

Bedford doing great work for our community

Bedford have been doing some great work for Council across the community, helping keep our city clean by removing illegally-dumped rubbish; doing hard waste pickups and general rubbish clean-up. We’ve partnered with the organisation for a number of decades now, proudly supporting local people with a disability. Bedford also offer services to the broader community, including landscaping, gardening, maintenance and general tidy-up. Pictured doing an awesome job cleaning up in Civic Park are Bedford's Steven Martin, Donna Reynolds, Samantha Muscat and Fiona Roberts, with Council's Project & Contract Support Officer Jo-Anne McGrath.

Works continuing at the Recreation Centre

The project is tracking on schedule, with the works to repair the spa progressing well (including trenching as pictured), the demolition and bandage to the leisure pool complete and the grouting has now started.

The plant and equipment are due to arrive in the next couple of weeks. We’ll continue to provide updates throughout the project.
