Whyalla pride on show
Whyalla residents’ pride in their city was overwhelmingly on show over the past week, as we were inundated with scores of photos of people’s favourite Whyalla-related images.
We put a call out to the community to send us their favourite images, with about 50 people submitting more than 100 photos, showcasing everything from sunsets on the foreshore to lightning over the steelworks.
It was an extremely difficult choice for our judges, with each image capturing something special and unique about Whyalla. In the end, they decided to pick images that each told a different story and represented varying aspects of the city.
The winners are:
Tracey Beck – ‘Storm over the outback’
Robert Woodland – ‘Glassy marina’
Jane Hayward – ‘Kayak through the mangroves’
Gail Caviedes – ‘Lightning over the steelworks’
Lisa Faulds – ‘Wetlands at dusk’
Brian Hubbard – ‘Picturesque Mount Laura’
Janine McCarthy – ‘Percy on the jetty’
Cherilee Bagshaw – ‘Sunset at the foreshore’
Each of the winners takes away a free copy of ‘Top 100 Places to Visit in SA’ by South Aussie with Cosi, which of course includes a spread on Whyalla 😍 These can also be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre for $24.95 (RRP $49.50).
Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to submit their photos – it was fantastic to see so much passion and engagement, demonstrating the widespread love for our great city. We’ve created an image gallery below to showcase all of these great images, so be sure to check it out!
