OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Disclosure returns
Whyalla City Council has today been notified by the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) that three of its current Council Members did not submit the required donation returns form prior to the cut-off date.
The Council Members impacted are Phill Stone, Kathryn Campbell and Sharon Todd. As of today, they vacate public office and are no longer Council Members.
However, they now have the opportunity to submit an appeal by 20 February to the South Australia Civil Administrative Tribunal (SACAT). SACAT will then decide if the individuals are to be restored to their positions. Their positions will remain vacant while this process takes place.
As a result, a Special Council meeting will be held by the remaining Council Members on Monday 13 February to determine which of them will fill the role of Acting Mayor.
This does not impact Council’s ability to deliver on its vision for Whyalla, nor the day-to-day activities of running the city, with the remaining Council Members continuing to meet to make decisions on behalf of the community.
