Get on BOARD and Celebrate SA Youth Week
20 March 2023
Whyalla, get ready to celebrate SA Youth Week 2023!
SA Youth Week takes place all over the state from Friday March 24 to Sunday 2 April. It’s the biggest celebration of young people aged 12-24, supported by the Department of Human Services.
This year Whyalla City Council has partnered with other local youth community service providers to support and fund the delivery of a FREE two-day skateboarding workshop. The workshop will take place at Risk It Skate Park, Civic Park on Saturday 25, and Sunday 26 March from 11am – 3pm.
The event - hosted by Plaza Youth - will see the team from Build Up Skateboarding provide engagement and activation at Risk It Park for our youth community.
The Build Up program will offer opportunities for personal development in an entertaining atmosphere, where participants can explore their creativity, develop social skills, and build confidence on and off the board!
Council’s Youth Development Coordinator Gail Rostig said she is she is really excited about this year’s event.
“Council has a long history of delivering free Youth Week celebrations to our community, but in the past few years, we have had to take a step back and manage smaller-scale events and opportunities,” Gail said.
“It’s so great to be working collaboratively with the other youth services organisations on a large-scale event that I know the community are really going love and benefit from.
“Participants will learn practical and valuable skills, such as how to build skateboards, ride and do tricks, along with having the opportunity to meet new friends in a community owned space, one they are comfortable in.”
As well as all the important life lessons, we have prize packs on offer for participants to take home. Prizes include skateboards, clothing, and lots of other goodies and giveaways!
Free food and drink will be provided for participants - youth just need to rock up in suitable clothing for the weather and enclosed shoes.
Thanks also goes to The Department of Human Services, which has made this event possible through its ongoing generous support of SA Youth Week.
