Children's Book Week

It wouldn't be Children's Book Week without the Whyalla Public Library getting involved! Our very own angel Ali had quite a crowd for Storytime during Book Week last month, reading this year's Early Childhood Book of the Year: Where the Lyrebird Lives by Vikki Conley, this book takes us on a journey of discovery through the lush Australian rainforest to find a lyrebird! As you can see by the smiling faces and incredible costumes everyone had a fantastic time!

The Outdoor Team

The outdoor team have been out at Memorial and Bennett Oval to make sure they are both in great condition for the Whyalla footy finals! Here is Nik, hard at work on the mower at Memorial Oval, looking nice and green!

You may have seen the tree planting crew along Raws Street recently, planting Wilga (Geijera parvifolia) a small evergreen tree native to inland Australia. Wilga are drought and frost tolerant and will grow to about 7 meters tall in Whyalla, making them a perfect street tree. Eventually they will end up looking like the row of Wilga on Syme Street right around the corner! Great work team!

Waste Education

Our Waste Officer Charuka and high school students from Sunrise, Samaritan College and Whyalla Secondary College completed a GFG foundation project (in collaboration with CSIRO) promoting waste education. Students got to attend an informative lecture and then demonstrate their learning by sorting through a variety of products and placing them into the correct bins.

Early Childhood Educators Day

The Whyalla Child Care Centre celebrated Early Childhood Educators Day this week by dressing up as superheroes, this might not seem too out of the ordinary because they are SUPERHEROES every day of the year!

Jo Marsland from the Child Care Centre gave an amazing thank you to her fellow Early Childhood Educators yesterday "A big THANK YOU to all of our incredible Educators. As we recognize and celebrate you, please know that your efforts and dedication to our service and Early Childhood Education are noticed and appreciated. Your passion is evident in your interactions with children, the creative and engaging activities you plan, and the relationships you build with families. You shape the future by nurturing the potential of our youngest generation and we are grateful for you today – and always!". What a wonderful message!
